Australia and China are the first countries in Asia using the ICS’ new computer forensic tool, following federal and local law enforcement agencies in the US, Europe and the Middle East.
The Link MASSter Forensic was developed by Intelligent Computer Solutions Inc., a leader in data acquisition tools, worldwide, for US law enforcement who were facing more and more difficulties in getting direct access to notebooks’ hard drives. The product, which was launched December 2003, is the fastest solution to seize data from unopened notebook or PC to an external evidence hard drive, while maintaining the integrity of the copied data using advanced hashing methods such as CRC32, SHA1 and MD5.
The Link MASSter acquires the suspect’s data by connecting to the notebook through either FireWire or USB ports. An ICS diskette or CD is used to boot the notebook, thus avoiding booting the local hard drive. Using the suspect’s notebook the investigator can preview the suspect’s hard drive, independent of the notebook’s operation system and then capture the data in different methods such as Mirror Type Copy, Segmented File Format or Compressed File Format. An audit trail report is then printed to be used as evidence in court.
The speed recorded with the Link MASSter and the new FireWire B cable exceeds 3.0GB/Min, depends on the type of hard drives used in the operation. The unit also enables the investigator to wipe out the external hard drive to DoD specs before the operation begins.
Intelligent Computer Solutions, established in 1990 in California and developed the technology used today for high-speed hard drives duplicators (US Patent 6,131,141). In the mid nineties the company began working with law enforcement agencies to develop tools that can copy suspects’ hard drives quickly and efficiently to eliminate the need to confiscate suspect’s work stations and risk changing or destroying the content of hard drive while analyzing their information. This led to a wide range of seizure, analysis and write-protection devices that is being used today by both local and federal law enforcement agencies all over the world. Here is what some are saying: • "ICS was one of the first vendors to assist Law Enforcement in the field of computer crime. Since 1996, ICS has worked with the NYPD and HTCIA to develop a forensic tool at their own cost. ICS has always been a friend to law enforcement and is the best example of industry working with Law Enforcement as we enter this new era of combating Technology Crime.." James Doyle (ret Sgt NYPD), President Internet Crimes • “Our people were really impressed by the IM Solo 2 Forensic and Link MASSter units we purchased…” Lt. Amer Sharafuddin Sharaf System Administrator Dubai Police
